ASEAN TOURISM WORKING GROUP/COMMITTEE MEETINGS

After the ASEAN Tourism Ministers endorsed the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) on 17 January 2011 during the ATF 2011 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the first meetings of ASEAN Tourism Working Groups/Committees Meetings was held in Grand Plaza Hotel, Ha Noi, Viet Nam on 5 " 9 April 2011. The meetings were attended by the representatives of the ten ASEAN member states, ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA) as well as ASEAN Secretariat.

The working group/committee meetings discussed on the proposed programs or projects for the next five years, and agreed to appoint the country coordinator for each program/project. In line with this, Indonesia has been appointed as the country coordinator for (1) the Market Research Group (MRG), (2) the development of ASEAN Security and Safety Guidelines, (3) the program of ATRM on Tourism Heritage, and (4) the development of Cultural and Heritage Tourism Product.

Follow-up actions of the last task force meetings were also discussed and the meetings agreed to undertake the program of ASEAN for ASEAN in order to encourage nationals of ASEAN to visit other ASEAN member states, and also conduct capacity building for the ASEAN tourism professionals through training in language and professionals services.

Indonesia headed by Mr. I Gusti Putu Laksaguna, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Culture and Tourism, shared experience on Community Based Tourism Development Program through Village Tourism in Indonesia. In addition, Indonesia as a country coordinator of the development of ASEAN Security and Safety Guidelines also presented paper on this subject, which will be funded by UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office " Counter Terrorism Department amounted of 30,000 pound sterling.

For effective and timely implementation of ATSP 2011 " 2015, the meeting also agreed to coordinate and work closely with relevant ASEAN bodies, including ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) and ASEAN Directors General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (DGICM), UNESCO, ADB etc.

The meeting welcomed the draft of the MOU on ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Cooperation prepared by Indonesia. The MOU is expected to be signed during the ATF 2012 in Manado, Indonesia.

All proposed programs resulted during the meeting will be tabled at the next ASEAN NTOs meeting in Lao PDR in June 2011 for further discussion and endorsement.

A bit further away from Bandung about forty-five hours drive is Bogor, also called the city of rain. Previously known as "Buitenzorg" (Sans soucis or Without worries), during the Dutch colonial era, Bogor actually lies closer to Jakarta (50 km) than it does to Bandung (120 km). Appropriately named by the Dutch as a town "without worries", they chose Bogor to be the site for constructing the first palace of the Dutch Governor General way back in 1745. Later restored in 1832, the palace still stands solid and elegant today with its stretched out gardens where deer roam freely on the green grass under majestically tall old trees.
The inhabitants of Bogor work in agriculture, forestry, industry, as civil are Christians, Catholics, Hindus and Buddhists. From a historical point of view, the Bogor Regency still has a close relationship with the history of the Pakuan Padjajaran Kingdom, which was built between the 13th - 15th centuries. This is supported by some historical objects in the form of inscriptions as old manuscript written by some historians, which were found in the area.

Bogor, is famous with its botanical garden. This botanical garden and in the garden is the palace "Buitenzorg" On a not so busy day on the road a visit to Bogor and Taman Safari tourism can be done on the same day. The world-famous Bogor Botanical Garden borders the Palace Grounds, covering an area of 87 hectares with thousands of species of plant life from all over the world. There are over 15,000 species of trees and plants, 400 varieties of palms alone. The orchid houses contain over 3000 orchid varieties. We don't have to be a horticulturalist to enjoy the gardens, it is a masterpiece of design and a wonderful place to just stroll and enjoy the company of family and friends. See the original "Havea Brazilliensis" rubber tree, formerly imported from Brazil, and world's largest flower, the Rafflesia, a foul smelling and stem less as well as leafless plant. When visiting this Garden, arrange for a permit to visit the neighboring Presidential Palace, which belonged to the Dutch Governor General before Indonesia's independence. Doing this may be a daylong visit by leaving Jakarta in the morning and spend the night in Puncak mountainous region on the way to Bandung the next day. Here again, the whole car trip will be memorable, as scenic tropical beauty all around is really astonishing. We will also pass by another smaller Presidential Palace at Cipanas, the setting of which is in a colorful and flowery vast garden around this wooden but stylish palace.

Visitors will come by to Cikeureuteug Vilage, from Cikeureuteug the location is about 7 kms away or from Cibinong it takes about 7 hours by car. The forest lays on the hill in the middle of Pancawati Village.

According to Mr. Wirya who is a caretaker of this sacred place, it is prohibited to anyone to take photos or write about this place, and due to his permission we are able to write a documentation about this place and take some photos.

According to the observation, this place is a sacred place due to the existence of hallow graves. One of the hallow graves belong to a figure of Islam disseminator and has a relation to Cikundul burial (grave of Arya Wiratama, Cianjur) and grave of Mbah Arya Pasir Angin in Megamendung Sub District.

Mr. Wirya mentioned some names such as 1. Syech Mama Wali Haji Yusuf, 2. Syarifah binti Ainoloh, 3. Amah binti Hasanah as figures who buried in this sacred place.

Number of pilgrims who come to this place range from 600 to 800 people. They are from Bogor and outside Bogor. Mostly are women. Their purposes are 1. pray for the spirits, 2. pray for May God bless their life 3. pray for May God gives them walfares and so on. Praying session is guided by a caretaker of this place.
